| Scanning If you have any slides, prints or negatives that you don't want to lose, (celluloid and prints can deteriorate over time) you may have considered converting them to digital pictures, similar to those taken by digital cameras. Well we can do that for you to help you preseve those memories. We can accept images up to 10x8 inch maximum size. For transparencies we can scan various standard sizes including 35mm (slides or negatives), medium and large format film. If you need an overview of Resolutions, Film, Digital and Scanning technology please click here. We scan at various resolutions depending upon need, up to 6400dpi for film if you want to produce a very large detailed print of a special image. Otherwise, 35mm film scanned at 2400dpi will be suitable for most needs and common print sizes (e.g. 2400dpi would be good for a high quality 9x6 inch print). Where possible, the original film (negative or positive) should be used for scanning as more detail is available than from prints. However, if you only have prints then we can scan these as well. It is also possible to restore faded or damaged pictures to a greater or lesser extent, so your scans may be improved over the originals (this service involves additional costs for time - see pricing for details). If your original image is too large to fit on our scanner, we can take a high resolution (12.8MP) picture of it instead of using the scanner. We can also produce giclée prints of your original artwork. Turnaround will depend upon the number of images to be scanned and whether you just want a straight scan or if you would like any image improvement work to be done (for example removing dust and scratches or blemishes or restoring faded colours via digital image processing). You can also order fresh prints of your newly scanned images from us at the same time if you like! Images will be recorded onto CD or DVD and returned to you along with your original media. You can then enjoy those pictures via your PC or compatible DVD player, share with family or friends and know that those images are safely and permanently recorded in digital format*. |
