| Repairs If requested as part of our photo or film scanning service, we have the facility to use a technology called Digital ICE, which in many cases can remove dust, dirt and scratches from both reflective (photos) and transparent (slides and negatives) media during the scanning process. It can even help to restore faded images. However, as with many technologies, it is not guaranteed to work with all types of media or in all situations. But we don't have to rely entirely on this method. In circumstances where Digital ICE fails to work or falls short of expectation (possibly where damage is too severe or inconveniently positioned as to cause loss of important detail), manual processing is usually the next step, where the digital artist takes over from the machine and does their best to manipulate the image to improve it. Where damage is quite extensive this can be a lengthy process just for one image and with the best will in the world, it might not be possible to provide a full restoration. Creativity |

| Please
compare the examples below. This is a job that took about three hours
of processing work as the picture had some bad damage including some tearing
across faces (highlighted and expanded in each image) which was difficult
to reconstruct accurately. We did the best we could with the time available. The photo to the left is before processing and the right is after! |
